Progesterone Pregnancy
Progesterone Levels During Pregnancy have a medically-proven, unarguable relationship. Even if the slightest of progesterone deficiency is present, pregnancy cannot be achieved. This fact is proven by women who have entered menopause and hence, cannot get pregnant since menopause impairs the release of sufficient progesterone.
Similarly, women who have a history of repeated miscarriages or find it difficult to conceive due to menstrual problems are usually diagnosed with low progesterone levels. Progesterone is needed for ensuring that the menstrual cycle is completed properly and hence, ovulation that leads to the formation of a healthy female egg is uninterrupted. During ovulation and just after it, progesterone levels tend to remain high, before dipping significantly. If the egg is fertilized, it needs to be implanted on the endometrial lining of uterus to establish pregnancy. This too is dependent upon progesterone sine it controls the thickness of the uterine endometrium. Apart from aiding implantation, progesterone is required to ensure that the fertilized egg gets sufficient nutrition and oxygen.
For normal childbirth, it is vital progesterone levels start falling since this stimulates the onset of uterine contractions that aid the child-bearing process. During pregnancy, progesterone affects the psychological health of the woman since it helps to control mood patterns and avert depressive tendencies apart from preventing premature lactation.
